sentryGPSid GPS tracking portal safe zone overview

With the sentryGPSid GPS tracking portal and our GL100 GPS personal tracking device, you can create up to five radial geofences (safe zones) per GPS tracking device. Each GPS device will always show a list of Zones 1 – 5, even if no zone is yet created. You can create your zones in any order. and can easily see which zones are active or inactive at any given time.
If you have more than 1 GPS personal location device associated with your account, you can switch between GPS location devices by utilizing the drop-down above the list of geofences.
Create and edit each of your radial geofences individually, but view all of your geofences for each device on one tracking map.

Creating a new GPS radial geofence

To create a new radial geofence for any of your GPS location device, simply follow the steps outlined below:
Step 1: Enter the address you wish to create the geofence around, then click the Go button.
Step 2: Enter the distance, and choose your unit of measure for the radius of the geofence, then click Go.
Step 3: Name your zone and click the Create Zone button.

Edit a GPS radial geofence

You can also easily edit your previously created and saved geofences for each GPS location device. Start by clicking the “edit” button located under the geofence which you would like to edit. Then edit the center of the location by using the drag-and-drop directions below, or edit the name or radius by entering the new information in the pop-up window. Then just remember to click the “Commit Zone Updates” button.
Hint: You can also deactive or delete any of your zones by clicking the corresponding button as well. (if you deactivate the zone, you won’t receive any alerts for breaches of that zone).

Recenter a GPS radial geofence

One of the unique features of our GPS tracking portal is the ability to “drag-and-drop” the center of your geofence on the setup map in order to recenter your geofence.
After entering the address for a new zone, or clicking “edit” in order to update a current zone, simply click on the red icon on the map that signifies the center of your zone, and hold the mouse cursor down. Now drag your mouse cursor to whatever location you wish for the center of the zone to be and release the mouse button. Now just re-save your zone!
Hint: If you switch the map to “Hybrid” view prior to starting the drag-and-drop process you can see the actual buildings and other geographical features to help ensure your GPS location device’s geofence is centered exactly where you want it.

Before we begin explaining why the sentryGPSid™ is a much better option than the RFID based location systems, we will start with an explanation of the underlying technologies of each.

The sentryGPSid™ utilizes GPS technology. GPS is an abbreviation for Global Positioning System, the key word here being Global. From Wikipedia:

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) developed by the United States Department of Defense and managed by the United States Air Force 50th Space Wing. It is the only fully functional GNSS in the world, can be used freely, and is often used by civilians for navigation purposes. It uses a constellation of between 24 and 32 Medium Earth Orbit satellites that transmit precise microwave signals, which allow GPS receivers to determine their current location, the time, and their velocity.

In contrast, RFID (an abbreviation for Radio-frequency identification) is a much more locally based system. Information is sent to and read from RFID tags by a reader using radio waves. In passive systems, which are the most common, an RFID reader transmits an energy field that “wakes up” the tag and provides the power for the tag to respond to the reader. In active systems, a battery in the tag is used to boost the effective operating range of the tag. You may be familiar with short range RFID systems if you have ever used a proximity card for a door at work or a parking garage with secure access.

So, just by looking at the respective definitions of the two technologies you can start to see how the sentryGPSid™ and it’s GPS based technology is far superior to RFID based location systems. But the fact a sentryGPSid™ can be located most anywhere in the world is not the only advantage that separates the sentryGPSid™ from other child and adult locator devices. The sentryGPSid™ also provides what is known as “bread-crumbing”, or the storage and display of historical points of data. By default, when a user logs into the SentryGPS web portal he or she will automatically be provided up to the last 50 points of data which were transmitted by their sentryGPSid™. This means that a directional history can be derived even if the exact location of the GPS device can not be ascertained due to severe environmental conditions.

With an RFID based system, there is no data basing of previous locations or bread crumbing due to the fact the position of the transmitter is only considered relevant to the location of the receiver – not the actual position of the device on the globe. So if no signal an be picked up by the receiver, than there is no way of telling which direction to even start searching for the missing child or adult.

Also, while on the topic of the transmitter and receiver for an RFID system, that brings up another great benefit of the sentryGPSid™ over RFID based systems. RFID based systems require two pieces in order for the system to work: 1. the device on the child or Alzheimer’s patient, and 2. the receiver or “locater”. If the receiver is not readily at hand, the transmitter on the child or Alzheimer’s patient is almost worthless. Some of the systems out there today for Alzheimer’s patients require the local sheriff to invest as much as $3,000 for these RFID receivers in order for the programs to even be offered in your county.

With the sentryGPSid™ you can locate your GPS device through any internet connected computer, anywhere in the world. All you need is your username and password to the SentryGPS webportal and you will be able to track your device. So there is no expensive equipment for the sheriff’s office or local law enforcement agency to purchase. Additionally, we are developing applications for the iPhone, Windows Mobile phones, and other smart phones that will allow you to easily track your GPS device directly from your cell phone through a similar map-based interface. We are also going to give you the ability to send a text message to our webportal that will reply with the exact location of your device and a link that will open up your phones internet browser to display a map.

Those are just a few, brief examples of why the sentryGPSid™ is a far superior option to any of the RFID based child or Alzheimer location systems on the market today. I’ll make certain to outline more benefits in the very near future while we also release some great new functionality!

As the most common form of dementia, Alzheimer’s disease is a brain disorder that causes a person to lose his memory, learning and retention, ability to make judgments, and several other cognitive and motor functions.

Many times the brain damage is so severe that an Alzheimer’s patient won’t even remember where he or she lives. There have been too many reports of Alzheimer’s patients having lost their way or just wandered off away from their own homes or the ssisted living facilities in which they reside. Countless findings show that over 60-70% of all patients with Alzheimer’s will become lost at least once in their lifetime. But the horror does not stop there; reports state that nearly 50% of these Alzheimer’s patients could die if they are not found within 24 hours.

One of the most practical devices in the battle to help Alzheimer’s patients is a device that can monitor the whereabouts of an Alzheimer’s patient at all hours of the day, anywhere in the world – a GPS tracking device. GPS stands for Global Positioning Systems, the technology that has been used for military operations and is now popular in cars for detailed driving directions. Now, the practical uses of GPS technology do not end there – with the SentryGPS ID it can also be used to locate, track and monitor Alzheimer’s patients. The SentryGPS ID is an effective GPS tracking device which can be placed in a pants or jacket pocket, or worn on a belt in the included pouch.

By buying an activating a SentryGPS ID, you can rest easier at night knowing that your loved ones can not only be found if they are lost – you can be alerted if they even wander outside of your predetermined “safe zones”. Make today the day you rest a little easier: http://sentrygpsid.com/order/
